Staying within the Rules!
The Annual Racing Series Competition is run using the Cloud based version of the computer programme Cars Maths in Motion, first published by Cambridgeshire Software House in May 2013 and under continuous development.
1. Software licences must be purchased direct from Maths in Motion Ltd. or one of its approved representatives. Software licences are per school NOT per educational establishment i.e. where an Academy manages, say, five schools, each school will need its own software licence in order to participate in the Competition. Composite licences are available where a school has both Junior Challenge and Senior Competition aged students.
2. Your school will be notified by the email address of the lead teacher when to submit your first round entry. A number of other events will also be held over the course of the Challenge year. Also, the intervening period should be used to familiarise students with the software and the mathematics skills required to use it competitively by way of internal races. The software setup for the first round race will be made known to all registered schools in good time.
3. Eligible schools will then be notified when to submit their entries for the semi-final round of the Challenge.
4. The organisers will run a number of semi final races (based on the number of schools that qualified to take part), in the presence of an independent adjudicator, in order to determine the best cars submitted in each age category and these races will be available to the race participants to watch.
5. Students (see 7 below) responsible for setting up the best cars in the semi-final will be invited to participate in the online World Final that will take place usually the 3rd week of June. They will then work on a race set up of which they will have no previous knowledge. The number of teams invited to participate will be entirely at the discretion of the organisers. (PLEASE NOTE: Whilst there are no restrictions on the use of calculators during the preliminary stages of the competition, they will not be allowed during the World Final.)
6. All schools taking part must be aware that should they qualify to take part in the World Final, any associated costs incurred will be their sole responsibility. Schools participating in the World Final will need to have good access to the internet (preferably not Wifi), provide a webcam and audio connection, have access to email and the use of a printer on the day.
7. There will be two age ranges within the Challenge:
Junior Challenge: Any child who is attending Primary School and is aged 11 or under on the day of the World Final.
Senior Challenge: Any child who does not meet the critera for the Junior Challenge and is not over the age of 16 on the day of the World Final.
8. Schools must make up their teams as follows:
Junior Challenge: 4 pupils
Senior Challenge: 2 pupils.
9. School software licences are for In school use + Unlimited Home access. They are not limited to the number of students participating. No refunds will be made for unexpired portions of any licence after 7 days from the date on which our invoice was settled.
10. The purchase of a Cars in Maths in Motion software licence entitles you to enter the Challenge only for the Challenge year during which the licence is valid. Any school submitting an entry must have registered its own copy of the software with Maths in Motion Ltd. There is no additional charge to enter competitive races/events, either knockout or 'fun'.
11. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Primary & Secondary at the World Final and are at the discretion of the organisers for all other events. The Challenge organisers reserve the right to change any prize advertised or withdraw it completely if deemed absolutely necessary.
12. Further information will be published on these web pages from time to time. In the event of any disputes arising, or changes to the Rules, the decision of the Challenge organisers shall be final.
